The CDC Prevention Research Centers (PRC) Program is a network of academic research centers dedicated to developing, testing, and implementing community-based strategies to prevent chronic diseases and reduce health disparities. Each center partners with local communities to conduct applied public health research and promote health equity.

The Arizona Prevention Research Center (AzPRC) at the University of Arizona has been a continuously funded PRC for 25 years, spanning five funding cycles. Through strong partnerships with community organizations, AzPRC conducts research and demonstration projects that integrate the Community Health Worker (CHW) workforce to improve health outcomes in underserved populations across the U.S.-Mexico border region and beyond.

AzPRC's projects focus on:

  • Chronic disease prevention and management
  • Community-driven health promotion
  • Health equity and social determinants of health
  • Binational and border health initiatives
  • Indigenous health and resilience

By leveraging community engagement and participatory research methods, AzPRC continues to develop evidence-based interventions that address pressing public health challenges while strengthening the capacity of local communities to lead sustainable health initiatives.
