The Acción Para La Salud core research project aims to determine the effectiveness of integrating community advocacy into community health worker (CHW) outreach and education activities in increasing community-driven policy change related to chronic disease prevention.
The curriculum is designed as a year-long action-learning, community advocacy, and leadership training program for community health workers. The curriculum was developed and implemented for the Arizona Prevention Research Center community-based participatory research project. An application of Kingdon’s three streams model of the policy process provided an overarching conceptual framework for the training program, which was delivered through workshops, ongoing team projects, peer networks, and technical assistance.
